Weightlifting: Davis Nioyita Wins Silver in Uzbekistan

Uganda’s Weightlifter Nioyita Davis from Kisugu Weighlifting club has won Silver at the ongoing Senior World Weighlifting Championship in TashKent Uzebekistan.

Nioyita, competing in 55 category, lifted 220Kgs – 95 in Snatch and 125 in the Clean and jerk.

Despite an injury which he got from Saudi Arabia in the Youth World Weighlifting Championships in October, Nioyita managed to exploire the heights.

Jinja based Ibrahim Nsubuga from Black Monster weighlifting club will be in action on Thursday at 3:30pm EAT in the 67kgs category.

Hakim Ssempereza Musoke who won a silver in the 2019 World Weighlifting Championship who also doubles as the team captain will be in action on Friday.

Baligeya Godfrey will be Uganda’s last Athlete to be in action in the heavy weight category of 109+ and he is expected on the December 16th.

six Ugandans are in Uzebekistan including four weightlifters together with their coach Khasim Mulindwa as the headcoach as well as the Uganda weightlifting President who doubles as an international technical officer.

The Senior World Weighlifting Championship also double as Commonwealth games Qualifiers as the best will represent their countries in the forthcoming Commonwealth games in Birmingham, England.
