Tropical Royals Promoted to National Basketball League

Tropical Royals swept Kampala Rockets in Division One Play Offs over the weekend to earn a ticket to the National Basketball League next season.

The side won 64-55 in game two of the semifinals on Sunday at YMCA to seal a 2-0 sweet win having won game One 76-59 on Saturday at Nakasero.

They will face winner between Rezlife Saints and Our Saviour in the final, after the latter tied the series 1-1 following a spirited 66-62 win in overtime.

The Winner between Our Saviour and Rez Life next Saturday will also get promoted to the NBL next season.

Tropical Royals set the pace to lead 26-18 after the first quarter and never looked back in a game they shot 24-of-68 from the field.

Juma Osman led the way with 27 points while Duallo Joshua had 7 points and 10 rebounds for Brian Rugyendo’s charges.

It’s a huge blow for a star-studded Rockets side who also had their quarterfinal loss overturned after they successfully petitioned FUBA over Gulu Hawks use of an ineligible player.

Blick Norman scored a lowly 5 points on 2-of-6 shooting while Kur Garang and Cyril Mpungu had 18 and 13 points respectively.

In the Division Two Playoffs, Arnold Katabi’s Miracle Eagles eased past Watoto Men to return to the Division One after a three-season hiatus.

They will face Livingstone in the finals of Division Two. Livingstone overcame Emperors 2-0 in the best of three.
