Preview: On-form UPDF targets three consecutive wins
Brian Senyondo side will hope to win three consecutive games for the first time this season when they welcome Bright Stars in Bombo
The Army side defeated Busoga United 2-1 at home and a 4-2 victory away to Tooro United in their last two games.
The Army side will rely on their form at home which has seen them remain unbeaten after 3 wins against Express, Mbarara City and Tooro United as well as a draw to Gadaffi FC in the only time they dropped a point at home.
They have kept 2 cleansheets at the Bombo Barracks Military Ground against Express and Mbarara City while conceding just 3 times.
For Bright Stars, they visit Bombo on a back of a 4-2 defeat against Wakiso Giants but they will be hoping to win their second game of the season.
However, their form away from home is very poor after losing three against Mbarara City, Gadaffi FC and Wakiso Giants. Their only point away from home came against Busoga United in a goalless draw.
After scoring two times in their last game against Wakiso Giants for the first time this season, Bright Stars head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa says they will build on that to pick maximum points against UPDF FC.
“It is an opportunity to bounce back from the loss we had against Wakiso Giants were we conceeded 4 goals and managed to score 2 goals,” said Mugerwa.
“We have worked upon the mistakes we made as we were conceding the four goals, defending the long balls, defending as a team and aggressively to see that we keep a cleansheet and get the three points.
“The positive that was there is that we managed to score two goals for the first time this season in a match so if we can build on those positives and eliminate the negatives we are going to work for the 3 points.”
After 8 matches, UPDF are 4th on the log with 14 points having registered 4 wins and two draws.
Bright Stars have collected 5 points in 7 matches and occupies the 14th place with one win and two draw.
The last time they met last season, Bright Stars hammered UPDF 3-0 in Kavumba, goals by Samuel Ssekamatte, Sulaiman Ssebunza from the spot and Jamil Kisitu.
The second leg at the Bombo Military Barracks Ground wasn’t played due to COVID-19 after the league was ended.
This will be the 8th meetings between the two sides.
In the previous 7 encounters, UPDF have won twice while Bright Stars have also registered two wins with 3 games ending in a draw.
