Buikwe Red Stars: New Leadership Seeks To Restore Lost Glory

Buikwe Red Stars new chairman Isaac Mukasa wants to revive the glory days of Buikwe Red Stars.

Mukasa, a renowned Sports Journalist who also doubles as the proprietor for the Real Stars Sports Awards under Real Stars agency, was ushered in as the new club chairman during a colourful event on Tuesday.

Buikwe Red Stars was formed in the early 1970s and it has had various stints in the Uganda Premier League with the latest coming in 20003.

Since then, the club that also had mergers with defunct NYTIL, went into oblivion.

Trading in the Region League currently, Mukasa has sights on elevating the club to greater heights.

“We want our team to go in the FUFA Big League, our main target is Uganda Premier League of course but we are taking this step by step,” Mukasa stated.

“We want to revive the lost glory of Buikwe Red Stars because I grew up being told of how strong this team was in the past, then I watched them in Super League in 2002 but they only lasted just a season in top flight. We want to see this team back on top and that will help promote the area of Buikwe.

“We want to make Buikwe one of the best clubs in the country, despite the fact that it’s an upcountry club.”

He added: “We want organic growth and that is why we have not just bought a place in Big League. We want to embrace this growth.”

Edward Mukasa Kayemba, Mayor Buikwe Town Council, acknowledged that they had been in the break for a long time as area leaders in terms of Sports.

“We have been in a break but the arrival of individuals like Mukasa (Isaac) has surely awakened us.

“Going forward, we want to increase the budget for the Youths and see that Sports is put at the front. Sport has been neglected in the past that is the truth but we are going back to the drawing board and see that things are changed.”

The Club, who will open their Buganda Regional League campaign against Kira Young on December 5, will host league games at the dilapidated Buikwe Playground.

“The pitch is not in good conditions, and I want to urge my fellow leaders including our dear MPs like . Hon Diana Mutasingwa Nankunda who is also the Minister of State in Office of the Vice President and Ssalongo Lulume Michael Bayigga and others to come forward. Buikwe Town Council is the heart of the Buikwe district.”

“I want to thank Mukasa for coming back home to support and develop Buikwe and I encourage others out there to come back and do the same.”

Meddy Nyanzi, former coach at Bugema University, was unveiled as the club coach and 22 squad members revealed ahead of the season kickoff.

Nyanzi stated: “I am aware of the history of this club and it’s that lost glory I am going to work to restore.

“We will sit down to forge a way forward and see that we drive this team further. I have enough experience and I hope to use that to achieve our goals. I am contented with the players I have and they will need just little reshapening and we will be good to go.”
