Uganda Netball team, the She Cranes, defeated hosts the Namibian Desert Jewels 62-36 as their perfect start in the ongoing African Netball Cup continues down in Windhoek.

This is She Cranes’ third straight victory having defeated neighbors Tanzania in the opener and Zambia on Wednesday.

It was a toe-to-toe affair in the first quarter of the match but She Cranes defensive duo of Stella Oyella and Irene Ayalu in Namibian shooting circle proved the difference to make the 100% conversation rate to win the quarter 17-14.

Uganda changed the tune a little bit in second quarter demanding for more playing space, making Namibia to play a couple of unforced errors which gave She Cranes a chance to extend their margin to six goals to end the first half by 30-24.

One-on-one defensive style, challenging every pass, was the difference in the third quarter as She Cranes pulled away to end the third quarter with a 10-goal difference.

Uganda proved too strong in the final quarter for the hosts, putting more pace off the passes, chasing every ball, as they added in another gear to make their presence felt as one of Africa’s power house in the game, making Namibia to lose focus hence winning the quarter by 19-3 and to end the game with a deserved 62-36 win.

Uganda will return to action on Friday against Botswana and coach Fred Mugerwa is hoping to use the same game approach for yet another win.

He stated: ”We were playing the hosts, so we told the girls to concentrate on the game not the crowd and our plan was to attack as we defend that’s why we defended as much as we could and playing short passes and its going be the same approach in Friday because what we want is just a win.”
