Uganda eased past Tanzania to get off the mark during the opening game of the 2021 Africa Netball Cup in Windhoek, Namibia.
Fresh from winning the Pent Series, Uganda dominated Tanzania from onset as they led 20-07 after the first quarter at the Wanderers Sports Arena.
The She Cranes were 42-14 up at halftime and 60-21 in the third quarter before sealing a deserved 77-29 win.
“The players played well, we had to give a chance to those who did not feature in the Pent series so as we can see how good they are and they have not disappointed me. I hope they will continue to excel and may be give us something we start on,” said She Cranes coach Fred Mugerwa.
She Cranes captain Stella Oyella commented: “We were organised and worked as a team and we want to win our next games as well.”
The game was watched live by Uganda Minister of State for Sport, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua.
Its a perfect start and big motivation for the She Cranes but the team will surely be getting much more tests than Tanzania in form of hosts Namibia and defending champions South Africa.
The last time the tournament took place was in 2019, when South Africa returned after a 9-years wait were crowned champions to end Uganda’s two-year run that had seen the She Cranes win back to back titles in 2017 and 2018.
