*UPDF 1-0 Mbarara City
Musa Mudde scored a late penalty to earn UPDF FC all the points against Mbarara in the Uganda Premier League game played at the Bombo Military Barracks Ground.
Mbarara City was the dominant side in the first half but UPDF came back more composed in the second half.
First clear chance of the game fell to Mbarara’s Henry Kitegenyi but his header was saved by Goalkeeper Wasswa Yusuf.
Solomon Okwalinga played a nice through pass to Jude Ssemugabi but his low strike was easily collected by the Goalkeeper as Mbarara looked to get the opener.
Raymond Onyai had a good chance to put Mbarara ahead at the start of the second half but his attempt went off the target.
The hosts’ first clear chance fell to Salim Huud but his curler went over the bar.
UPDF started settling in the game with a well delivered cross but Ivan Ahimbisibwe header went wide.
And the hosts kept knocking the door when Bernard Muwanga’s free header flew inches wide.
With the game destined to a stalemate, hosts were awarded with a penalty after a foul on substitute Ezekiel Katende.
And Mudde cooly converted from the spot to break the deadlock for UPDF in the closing minutes.
UPDF moves 5th in the log with 8 points while Mbarara City are 9th with 6 points.
What next for both sides – They will return to action on Friday 19th November after the International break. UPDF will travel away to Lugogo to face KCCA while Mbarara City will host Vipers at the Kakyeka stadium.
