Fortebet Real Star Sports Awards continued to reward excellency in Sports after they recognised five winners for the concluded month of October.
Joseph Aredo (Rugby), Fahad Bayo (Soccer), Irene Nakalembe (Golf), Pascal Murungi (Cricket) and Latif Sendyowa (Tennis) were the winners.
These were awarded on Tuesday during a ceremony at Route25 in Kampala.
“Its my first time to win this accolade,” stated Cricketer Murungi who helped Uganda qualify to the ICC U20 Cricket World Cup in West Indies next year.
The Youngster who beat Dinesh Nakrani and Cyrus Kakuru to the gong added: “This is a big motivation for me and I thank my teammates for the achievement.”
Sendyowa, 12, who qualified for the African Champiinships, edged Hilder Afwoyoroth and Ambrose Byaruhanga and he commended his coaches and parents for helping him reach such a stage.
KOBs’ Joseph Aredo was named the best Rugby Player ahead of teammate Ian Munyani and Kelvin Balagadde thanks to his part in pushing KOBs to the summit of the National 7s after three circuits.
Golfer Nakalembe who failed to attend the event because of her commitments outside the country said: “I do not take this victory for granted, and it will push me for more. I thank the organisers for recognising me.”
She beat Deo Akope and Peace Kabasweka.
Bayo who scored twice in Uganda Cranes double header against Rwanda in the World Cup Qualifiers, managed to overcome Fauziah Najjemba and Charles Lukwago.
Uganda Sports Press Association President Patrick Kanyomozi who was the Guest of Honour, commended Real Stars for the initiative adding that “there is room for everyone to organise the awards that recognises sports excellency.”
Kanyomozi also urged the public to support all Companies that have come out to sponsor Sports.
