Crested Cranes head coach George William Lutalo says that team work was key in their 2-0 bictory against Ethiopia Women team.
This was the first leg of the first round of the qualifiers of the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) held at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Thursday.
A goal from Riticia Nabbosa and Fauziah Najjemba handed the Crested Cranes a two-goal first leg advantage in the two legged encounter.
Speaking after the final whistle, the gaffer thanked his players for the good performance on the day and admitted that team was key in their Victory.
“I thank my players for playing well in this first leg. Team work has helped us to win this game,” Lutalo said.
However despite the victory, Lutalo wasn’t satisfied and admitted that they are still pushing until they achieve the set target.
“Much as we have scored the two goals but for us it wasn’t enough. We are not celebrating, we are just starting the war so they still have to keep pushing until when we achieve our set targets. The war is still on until when we finish it when we have obtained our set goals.”
Following the victory, Uganda will now need any positive result away from home when they face the Ethiopian team on Tuesday October 26th for the Second leg.
With a few days to the contest, Lutalo vows to put up a good show when the two sides meet again.
“We shall put a good fight when playing away from home and we call upon our fans to keep supporting us.”
The eventual winner between Uganda and Ethiopia will face either Kenya or South Sudan in the final round of qualification. The Harambee Starlets thrashed South Sudan 8-0 in Nyayo Stadium on Thursday.
As it Stands, Lutalo’s charges will need to avoid defeat when they face Ethiopia away from home as they only have one stage to overcome to reach the final 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco next year.
