Mbowa Remains Hopeful Despite Loss To Mbarara City

Bright Stars head coach Baker Mbowa remained positive despite his side’s loss to Mbarara City in their league opener.

This he said following the 3-1 loss to Mbarara City as the 2021/22 Uganda Premier League season kicked off on Friday.

Speaking after the final, Mbowa expressed his discontent with the way they lost the game.

“We have lost the match which we couldnt have lost. But that’s football, am not happy about the way we have lost but thats it,” Mbowa told the pressmen.

Last season, the Japanese owned club completed a league double against the Ankole Lions in one of their best campaigns. They won 1-0 while at Kakyeka before registering a 3-1 victory in the return leg played at Kavumba.

However, this time round, they will rue missed chances especially in the opening minutes of the game. Nelson Senkatuka, missed twice while infront of goal despite scoring the consolation, Omony Kaka and Joseph Janjali also came close.

For Mbowa, he says that his side had created better chances than the home side before they scored.

“Yes we had controlled the game, created more than five clear cut chances. For the home side, they didn’t create any good chances but capitalised on playing long balls and scored us.”

Up next for Mbowa’s charges will be a home game against Onduparaka at Kavumba next week on Friday 22nd October.

Ahead of the game, Mbowa says they will rectify their mistakes and is optimistic they will get back to their winning touch.

“We shall rectify our small mistakes and move forward. We shall remain focused, regain our strong mentality and I believe we are going to step up and win matches.”

Last season, Bright Stars under the Stewardship of Mbowa finished Fifth on the UPL log with 42 points, their best position since their league promotion.

Having lost their first game of the season, Mbowa’s charges will have to forget the past and pick up themselves when they host the West Nile side next week.
