StarTimes UPL All Star Game: Mutebi, Ssimbwa To Clash In League Curtain Raiser

Coaches Mike Mutebi and Sam Ssimbwa will face off in the 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League All Star game due September 27, 2021.

The initiative, first of its kind, has been made possible by league sponsors StarTimes, Dubymax Electronics and Sanyuka tv who will air the match live.

Fans have been given the power to vote for their UPL clubs stars who will take place in the much anticipated game.

The players will be eligible to play this match from the 16 top flight clubs that played last season and the 3 newly promoted clubs for the forthcoming season.

“This is something really important for Uganda football. We want to promote the StarTimes UPL,” started Christine Kikomeko who is the head of communications at StarTimes Uganda.

“We are going to have different stars being voted by you the viewers. These will be taking part in this match.

“For the past seasons, we try to improve the quality and experience of the league. We are giving people hype to ensure that they get ready for the new season.

“We are dedicated that by the end of the 10-year tenure, we shall have moved football to being by far miles the number one Sport in Uganda.”

Kikomeko also revealed that there will be many prizes at stake.

The public will nominate their favourite stars and the pool of players with the highest number of votes will make it to the final list from which the coaches will form their respective team on Live TV show. The voting will close on September 18 and the public will be able to see the finalists as selected by the coaches.

During the launch on Friday at Sheraton Hotel, FUFA Deputy CEO Decolas Kiiza stated: “We have a number of football activities that are lined up for the coming season. We thoughout we would have the Super Eight but there is a busy schedule and we hope this match will serve as an able subsitute.”

Coach Mutebi named his named Dubymax Kirunda while Ssimbwa’s is Dubymax Hasule.

Isma Lule, Brand Marketing and director StarTimes, stated that they zeroed down on Ssimbwa and Mutebi after wide consultations from the league legends.

Ssimbwa stated: “I am previlliedged to be part of this team, mine will be Team Hasule and he was my captain on the national team. We are also happy that we have been nominated. I urge all fans to voted for their best players.”

Mutebi briefly commented: “We are out of jobs but we are special, this is a good intervention to sell players, for the last ten years we have failed to nurture young players.”
