The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has revealed the tentative dates for the 12-team 2021/22 Big League season that is slated to kick-off on October 21st this year.
The final fixtures will be released on September 4th as confirmed by the federation competitions department.
Prior to the commencement of the new season, other activities like club licensing, submission of required documents by the clubs, communication of the list of licensed clubs will be done in the entire month of September.
As earlier highlighted, the forthcoming season of the FUFA Big League will accommodate a total of twelve teams, a downgrade from the normal sixteen the fans are accustomed to watching. The decision was made by the federation on June 30th.
The statement from Mengo also further indicated that the format of play will be communicated but the plan is to clearly do away with both the Elgon and Rwenzori groupings.
Additionally, it was confirmed that the four teams that were relegated from the competition the previous season will not be replaced after the Regional leagues were called off due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
Mbale Heroes and Paidha Black Angels were relegated from the Elgon Group while Kigezi HomeBoyz alongside Terrazzo & Tiles FC were sportingly dismissed from the Rwenzori Group.
Meanwhile, clubs like Tooro United and eventual champions Arua Hill SC earned automatic promotion to the Uganda Premier League while Gaddafi FC needed a playoff masterclass to join the party.
The forthcoming Big League season will be graced with Kyetume FC, MYDA FC and Kitara FC who earlier experienced a plummet from the Ugandan topflight league.
