The Ville Electoral Committee (VEC) has confirmed the immediate suspension of the elections that had been slated for Saturday August 28th.
This follows a directive from the High Court of the Civil division of Kampala in respect to a petition from a one Nambalirwa Brenda Kawuma on Friday August 27th.
The document that isn’t addressed to anyone in the VEC committee, better yet the chairman was earlier rubbished as fake by various people in the community at it’s introduction to social media.
Robert Kiggundu, the VEC chairman further went ahead to denounce the allegations as being misguided since the highlighted the fact that the letter needed to be addressed to VEC.
He would go ahead to vow that for any consideration to be made in terms postponement or cancellation of the elections, an document from either the court or a member of the trustees had to be issued.
The court order has indeed been issued this afternoon and VEC Chairman, Robert Kiggundu, said as much while announcing the unfortunate and regrettable suspension of the much anticipated elections.
The Committee further confirmed receiving a letter from the registered Trustees of Villa Members Trust directing the elections to stop forthwith.
This comes on polling day with a host of Villa lined up at Speke Hotel in Kampala to cast their vote. These have been dispersed from the venue following the communication.
