Uganda Cranes Assistant Coach Moses Basena remains adamant that there has been massive improvement from the players in camp in terms of fitness despite the fact that they are yet to hit the desired standards.
Basena highlighted this while speaking to the media in a brief interview at the Kabira Country Club,
“The players have been very competitive and are trying to impress to be retained. The fight for everything and hardwork is vivid but I must also commend that professionalism in standing by all the aspects that the game brings about.” He mentioned.
He further expounded more about this stiff competition in the squad and maintained that this was healthy as every player aims to impress in order to make the final shortlist ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers.
The gaffer however also refuted the claims about the readiness of players for the competition indicating that they were yet to hit the 100 percent mark despite some easy to see improvements.
“We shall need to have more sessions in order to hit 100% and the improvements must be for everyday and it should be physical, mental and tactical.” He added.
Basena also provided an update on the colleagues that the team had to connect with from Addis Ababa to join the squad which will require assessment to be conducted.
In all honesty, Basena has worked with Micho for a long time now and their bromance is just there for anyone to see. He believes that their relationship will be the cornerstone to future success for the Cranes yet again.
He needed no invitation to speak about their history since working together in 2000 and provide a forecast to the future during their new tenure at the helm of the national team. This is what he briefly mentioned.
“We have achieved some milestones in football together so i expect that we shall continue to relate to football matters God willingly. The aim is to win our World Cup Qualifier games.”
The Uganda Cranes preparations for the World Cup Qualifier games against both Kenya and Mali in Group E are underway. They will however have to first negotiate a friendly match agianst Ethiopia.
