SC Villa defender Gavin Kizito Mugweli has applauded the coaches that have played an important role in his development since he was a toddler to currently being part of the Uganda Cranes set-up.
The towering centre-half made the 30-man shortlist of players that were summoned for national deputy by head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic in preparation for the World Cup Qualifier games against both Kenya and Mali.
During a brief interview following a training session at the Kabira Country Club, the youngster wasn’t hesitant to thank coach Micho for considering him for such an opportunity.
“I would like to thank coach Micho for summoning me to the camp but also to take the opportunity to thank all the coaches that have worked with me since I was young up to today, coach Ssozi and more other coaches.” He happily made mention.
Gavin was also complimentary about his teammates in highlighting that without them pushing him to the limit, he wouldn’t have been where he currently is.
“I would also like to thank my teammates for helping me in both mentality and providing challenges along with the senior players who always encourage and push us to make it.” He added.
He reflects on what is now a week in the camp and says that they are ready to work hard and ensure that the Cranes give everything to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
This ambitious plan by Gavin to see the country make the trip to Qatar for the game’s most important tournament will have to start against Kenya in September 2021 before hosting Mali at the St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende that same month.
