Gaddafi FC head coach Hassan Zungu was full of praise for the attacking prowess of his side following their 2-0 victory over Proline in the FUFA Big League Playoff final played on Tuesday evening at Technical Centre in Njeru.
Steven Munguch’s converted header off Fesali Najib’s well delivered corner gave them the advantage before Frank Mulimi rounded the opposition goalkeeper to score in an empty net in the second half courtesy of a Joel Madondo assist.
They held on defensively until the final whistle which was welcomed with a lot of rupture. This meant that the Playoffs debutants had qualified to the topflight league in just the first time of asking.
Speaking after the victory, the gaffer conceded the fact that Proline were good on the ball and kept it well.
“I want to credit Proline for giving us a great game of football, they kept the ball better than us and I am not ashamed to admit that. They forced us to play on the counter and I am glad it worked for us.” Zungu admitted.
It was precisely because of this reason that Gaddafi FC resorted to playing on the break while conceding possession to a team that they were never going to beat at keeping the ball.
Zungu further attributed the win to teamwork and the fighting spirit in the team.
“Working hard and together is part of the culture at the club and this isn’t only limited to the players but also to technical management and administration. We all share the same goal and we always implore God to walk the journey with us.” Zungu added.
Gaddafi FC’s promotion to the Premier League epitomizes the idea of belief that anything is possible. They ousted a favorite to make it back up in circumstances that seemed somewhat unprecedented.
It should also be remembered that they finished second in the Elgon group with 24 points and defeated Nyamityobora at the semi-finals on Sunday in a mouthwatering 4-0 scoreline.
They join Arua Hill and Tooro United who had earlier gained direct promotion to the topflight league courtesy of heading both the Elgon and Rwenzori divisions respectively.
Gadaffi FC will anxiously wait for fixtures of the new season which will come in as soon as the pre-season tournament (Pilsner Super 8) is concluded. The tournament takes centre stage on the 15th to the 30th of September 2021.
