Arua Hill Edge Tooro United to Clinch FUFA Big League title

Arua Hill SC are the Champions of the 2020/21 StarTimes Fufa Big League following their 1-0 victory against Tooro United in the finals played on Tuesday.

The West Nile based side who finished unbeaten in the regular season of the Big League continued with their good run, clinching this year’s championship.

Rashid Kawawa scored the all important goal to ensure that his the Kongolo emerge as Champions on the day.

In a game player behind closed doors due to adherence of COVID-19 guidelines, Arua started the better side on the day and it was no Surprise they took the lead before half time.

Their endless attacks paid off in the 25th minute when Captain Ceaser Okhuti teed up a rushing Kawawa who sent a powerful shot into the back of the net.

The Kongola, under coach Sadiq Ssempigi, led 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, Tooro United, despite dominating play, failed to break through a solid Arua Hill defence as they saw a limited chances created.

Tooro’s Sharp shooter Marvin Oshaba, who was brilliant in the regular season as he scored nine goals, looked blunt throughout the 90 minutes as he could not register any goal on his name.

With 4 minutes left on the clock, Tooro were reduced to ten men with Patrick Serunjogi being sent off for an elbow foul on Arua’s Kirya.

Arua held on and defended their goal till the last minute and they did just enough.

Victory meant that Arua Hill take home a cash prize of 10 million shillings, Tooro United bag 5 million while Gaddafi, who beat Proline to become the third team joining the UPL take home 3.5 million shillings.

Up next will be the pre-season tournament (Pilsner Super 8) that will take centre stage from the 15th to the 30th of September. The Qualified teams will also be waiting for the Final fixtures that will be released on the 20th of September, with the 2021/22 season scheduled to kick start 15th of October 2021.
