Simon Baligeya: URA FC Confirms First Signing of the Season

Uganda Premier League side URA FC has unveiled youngtser Simon Baligeya as their first new signing of the ongoing 2021/22 transfer window.

The club has confirmed acquiring Baligeya on a three-year deal.

The defender was part of Morley Byekwaso’s Uganda Hippos that finished as runners up at AFCON U20 Championship in Mauritania.

“I am very happy to be here, it’s honestly not that easy. Over the years, people have been accustomed to the mentality that URA only fancies experienced (old) players. My move here has proved otherwise and I believe it is going to be exemplary and encouraging for other younger players,” the youngster is quoted by the club.

“I intend to utilize the experienced of the players here to improve myself. and I am ready to learn from each one of them. My plan is to work hard, and pray that my chance comes and so I can utilize it to showcase my capabilities.”

Baligeya has featured in the Copa Coca-Cola secondary schools tournament for Standard High Zana in 2015-16, Bulo Parents from 2017-2018 and lately Kibuli SS in 2019-2020.

The Tax Collectors are yet to address the status of oit-of-contract head coach Sam Ssimbwa but earlier confirmed exit of defender Brian Majwega.

URA FC CEO Henry Mayeku confirms to have spotted Baligeya saying “I came across him through our partnership with Kibuli SS and his engagement with the national youth teams.”

Mayeku added: “We hope that it is a very great asset to URA FC. We are looking forward to nurturing a powerful defence combination this coming season.”

Joseph Mutyaba was a handed a new contract and reports have it that Geoffrey Wasswa and Kabon Living have joined URA FC.
