Shilla Omuriwe appointed new Volleyball Cranes Head Coach

Former KAVC head Coach Shilla Omuriwe Buyungo has been appointed Head Coach of the the Uganda Volleyball cranes.

The celebrated female coach replaces Nason Bwesigye at the helm of the nation side with the latter assuming the role of the National Teams Technical Advisor.

Omuriwe, currently head coach at top tier side Airforce, started coaching at KAVC ( men) steering the side to the 2014 National Volleyball League title.

Omuriwe featured for the Lady Volleyball Cranes as libero and has developed in stature as one of the most sought after coaches in local volleyball. She will work with former Volleyball Cranes Middle blocker Luke Eitit has the second in command.

She coached KAVC at the 2015 African Club Championship in Tunisia helping the side finish a respectable 14 th out of 24 teams. She was there after technical Director at KAVC before moving to Airforce in 2017.

Omuriwe has also been an household name at the women’s National team set up, The Lady Volleyball Cranes.

Her first assignment will be the African Nations Championship that will be held between 19th August and 19th September 2021.

Currently, Uganda is ranked 116 in the FIVB World rankings while On the continent, Uganda is ranked 18th with the Olympic bound Tunisia ranked number one.
