Tooro United was founded in 2007 as Soana FC by then owner Smart Obedi who bought off Misindye FC. Promoted to Uganda Premier League in 2013, the club later changed name in 2018 to Tooro United and shifted to Fort Portal City.
Car dealer Obedi sold the club to Sperito Ssesanga who reportedly handed over to Alice Namatovu.
Hosting at Buhinga stadium, the club garnered a huge fan base from the region that was already football thirsty.
National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary David Katende urged the leaders of Fort Portal to use the club as a promotional tool for the Tourism City.
Fortal Portal Mayor Edson Ruyonga Asaba and area MP Hon Alex Ruhinda attended the ceremony. They pledged to give the club all the support needed.
