Four UPL Players Join Uganda Cranes Camp

SC Villa defender Geoffrey Wasswa is among the new players added to the Uganda Cranes team that is preparing for the upcoming Bafana Bafana friendly.

URA FC marksman Steven Dese Mukwala, Police FC stylish midfielder Yusuf Ssozi and goalkeeper Tom Ikara have also joined the camp.

The quartet were not part of the initial 34-man squad that was summoned earlier.

The addition of the four is a boost for the National team coaches after a low turn up that saw only 14 players attend the first session at Lugogo on Monday.

Wasswa who can play across the backline and as a holding midfielder as well, brings versatility to the team.

Wasswa has impressed during his short spell at Villa after joining from Vipers this season.

The St Mary’s SS Kitende graduate failed to make the final squad for then coach Sebastien Desabre team in 2018.

The National team selectors made everyone raise eyebrows when they left out Mukwala, last season’s top scorer who currently has 14 goals to his name.

Cranes face Bafana Bafana in South Africa on June 10, but Covid19 is expected to slow preparations including travel arrangements.

On Monday, Coach Abdallah Mubiru stated that some players missed the first training session after missing the first set of Covid19 testing.
