Debutants Uganda have qualified to the semifinals of the ongoing Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Senegal.
The Sand Cranes claimed the second spot of Group A after hosts Senegal beat Tanzania to take the top seat.
This, means that Uganda have a chance to battle for one of only two available African tickets to Beach Soccer World Cup in Russia.
Uganda will hence face Group A winners Mozambique in Friday’s semifinal while Senegal and Morocco will face off in the other tie.
Mozambique topped Group B when they beat Morocco 2-1 on Tuesday to reach the semi-finals in style, having won all their three Group B matches to top with maximum points.
Tanzania and Egypt who finished third in their respective groups will face off in a placement game to determine the 5th and 6th positions.
Earlier, Uganda Sand Cranes coach Salim Jamal Muwonge said that the team is not in Senegal to participate but to secure a ticket for the World Cup.
He told CAF: “To achieve this goal, I know my players are courageous, committed and determined. They have been playing for a long time even though this is our first AFCON appearance. We have the best to qualify for the World Cup.”
