Eric Kambale extended his scoring form as Express FC edged UPDF FC on Saturday in Uganda Premier League at Wankulukuku.
The stylish forward scored from the spot in the 20th minute after UPDF FC defender Bernard Muwanga had brought down Godfrey Lwesibawa in the box.
The goal is Kambale’s 12th in the league this season after he had scored an hat-trick earlier this week against Kyetume at Nakisunga.
The Army men will however have goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa to thank after he kept the scoreline at bay. He came out twice to deny Godfrey Lwesibawa in one-on-one situations.
UPDF, without head coach Kefa Kisala, had an opportunity to make the Red Eagles rue their wasted chances but Davis Kasirye skewed wide his effort after a beautiful control and turn.
The Visitors who had Brian Kalumba stretchered off earlier for Alex Kitata, threatened through Brian Kayanja on most occasions.
Kayanja missed from a tight angle, had his freekick blocked at the half-hour mark and rattled the crossbar at the stroke of halftime but the striker could not add on his 7 goals tally.
Its revenge well served by Express against UPDF who won the reverse fixture 1-0, goal by Alex Kitata, in March in Bombo.
Express intensify their chase for the first league title since 2011 but they remain third and top three were unmoved after leaders URA and Vipers both picked up wins.
Express have won four in a row and remain unbeaten at Wankulukuku this season.
UPDF remain without a win in six games in all competitions and have lost their fourth game from last five away league games.
