The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) president Moses Magogo has vowed to support Lady Doves Football Club in the forthcoming inaugral 2021 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Lady Doves were crowned champions of the 2021 FUFA Women Super League after beating UCU Lady Cardinals by 2-1 in the final played at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru on Wednesday, May 05.
Following the victory, the Masindi based club will now represent Uganda in the CAF Women’s Champions League slated for November this year in Morocco.
Speaking after the finals, Magogo was quick to assure that the prize money to the champion will be increased.
“First of all the champion takes 12 million as it has been announced whether you are going to the Champions league or not. Said Magogo
“We still want to increase on that prize, our marketing team is looking for a way forward on how to increase on the money being given to the winner.”
To reach the Champions League finals, Lady Doves will first participate in the Zonal qualifiers which will be held in Kenya from July 17th to 1st August to determine who represents the CECAFA region.
Since 2019, FUFA extends a helping hand to clubs representing Uganda on the continent and Magogo said that Lady Doves will be no exception.
“0ur support like we give to the men’s team as far as the air tickets are concerned, it also covers for the women.
“Again the Football Association will take responsibility for the air tickets for the Women Champions League representative for as far as it goes in the tournament.”
When they qualify for the final tournament, Lady Doves who won their first league title on Wednesday, will be the first team to represent Uganda in the CAF Women Club Champions League.
