Police FC defeated Bright Stars 4-1 in the Uganda Cup round of 16 first-leg game played at Lugogo on Sunday.

Ben Ocen netted a brace while Yusuf Ssozi and substitute Derrick Kakooza scored the other goals for the Cops.

Joseph Janjali temporarily equalized for the visitors on a day that they will want to forget quickly as they were out classed in every sense of the word.

Inside two minutes, Ocen poked into an empty net to open the scoring.

However Bright Stars found a way back into the game as Janjali raced through on goal before slotting past Derrick Ochan to net the equalizer on 15 minutes.

Seven minutes later, Police restored their lead through Ssozi who collected from Tony Mawejje before bundling in from close range.

On 35 minutes, Ocen brought down Ruben Kimera’s corner before turning and shooting into the back of the net to put 3-1 up, a lead they took into the break.

Despite making several changes early in the second half, Bright Stars could not find a second goal as Police stood firm.

With 13 minutes to play, Kakooza scored a fourth for Police as he rifled in from an acute angle, to all but put the tie to bed.

Speaking after the game, Police head coach Abdallah Mubiru thanked his players for the fine display but assured that the tie is not yet done.

“We thank God who has enabled us to get the victory today. I also thank my players for the effort and class they have exhibited today so as to score four goals. Said Mubiru.

“We have won by four goals to one and we carry a three-goal margin into the next game but all that has happened today stays here because the other game is totally different. Bright Stars is a very good team, they are strong and play well. Probably, they have had a bad day today so we need not to put down our guard in the return leg. We have 90 more minutes that we are supposed to manage well and we just pray that God enables us take care of the second game.”

The two teams will face off in the second leg on Thursday at the Kavumba Recreation Grounds in Wakiso.
