Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC beat Maroons FC 2-0 in the Uganda cup first leg round of 16 match played at the Luzira on Sunday.
Goals from Herbert Achai and Hassan Jurua ensured first leg advantage for KCCA Morley Byekwaso’s side.
Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago put up a spirited performance on the afternoon, denying Maroons a consolation at the death as he saved Pius Obuya’s penalty.
Herbert Achai gave KCCA the lead inside 14 minutes of play, heading Jurua’s cross into the far corner.
Abraham Tusuubira nearly got the equalizer for Maroons only to be denied by the brilliant Lukwago.
Showing off a good display from the word go, Achai could have doubled the lead for KCCA FC at 28 minutes only be denied by goalkeeper Eric Dhaira.
Seven minutes off the hour mark, Jurua doubled the visitors’ lead from the penalty spot after Isma Kawawulo handball in the area.
With a minute to the final whistle, Lukwago flapped away Obuya’s penalty after a handball by Musa Rama inside the area.
Maroons have now gone 5 games without a victory in all competition and their Uganda Cup exit is now looming as things are not going well for Charles Ayeikho.
Both teams meet again on Thursday 6th May, for the return leg at the Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
