Striker Joel Madondo fluffed his penalty but Gaddafi FC did enough to overcome a spirited Calvary FC side.
Ronald Obele bundled home from close range in the 72nd minute to hand Gaddafi all maximum points at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe.
Madondo, in the 50th minute, sent his penalty kick way over the bar in a closely contested FUFA Big League tie.

“We got many chances on the day but we failed to convert them, I think we lacked aggressiveness in front of goal, we lacked numbers as well in front,” said Gaddafi coach Hassan Zzungu.
“There has been fatigue, and I blame that to a congested fixture, including that long trip to Arua recently. But the most important thing is that we have won the game.
“We are going back to the drawing board and we hope to come back stronger.”
The victory sees Gaddafi end the first round in second spot of the Elgon Group with 13 points, two below leaders Arua Hill who fetched a 2-0 win at Paidha Black Angels.
Calvary, newly promoted from the Regional League just like Gaddafi, ends the first round in fifth place with 10 points, three above safety.
