Uganda’s representatives at the on-going Men’s Africa Club Volleyball Championships, Nemostars have lost to Libyan side Swehly in straight sets in their quarter final tie.
The Ugandans lost 3-0 in sets 25-19, 25-14, 25-19 and they now shift focus to battle for places of 5-8.
It was a case of history repeating its self as Nemo lost to Libyan opposition Al Benghazi in the 2019 edition in Cairo at the same stage.
For the entirety of the contest, the Libyans looked a better side playing with poise and guile thanks to their towering stature.
Skipper and coach-player George Aporu was lively with chest thumping spikes but his contribution was not enough to steer the side over come the resilient Libyans.
The East Kololo based side have competed at the tournament amid sheer financial constraints and with benefit of hindsight, the team has performed with distinction.
They left head coach Andrew Okapis home, travelled with only 10 players and hadn’t cleared money for food and accommodation by the end of the group stages.
Club Patron Neko Muduse-Ojala said in his pre-match remarks that even if the team loses the quarter final game, there is competition for places.
Nemo will now hope to win their qualification tie (5-8) to match the sixth position they finished-in the 2019 Edition in Cairo.
