Joel Madondo scored the only goal to help Gaddafi FC overcome Mbale Heroes 1-0 in the first leg of the round of 32 of Uganda Cup.
Madondo struck in the 26th minute from the spot to earn victory for the Soldier Boys at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe.
The former Busoga United striker who also scored the only goal against the same side when they met in the league ensured his side earned another victory.
With 25 minutes played, the home side were awarded a penalty after Kawagga Godwin was fouled in the forbidden area.
From the resultant kick, Madondo did no mistake from the spot.
Victory against the Mbale based side sees the Soldier boys return to winning ways having lost their last two Big League games against Maroons and Kataka FC in that order.
Mbale Heroes will seek to overturn the deficit on 11th April in the second Leg at the Mbale Municipal Stadium.
