Uganda Cup Round Of 32
Vipers SC vs Busoga United
St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende
Monday, 05-04-2021 @4pm
Vipers SC will have star striker Yunus Ssentamu return from suspension when they host Busoga United in the Uganda Cup round of 32 on Monday at Kitende.
Ssentamu missed the 3-0 victory away to UPDF in the league, last week, after accumulating three yellow cards.
His return is a boost for Fred Kajoba’s side who are spoilt for choice in the attacking department with only Shaban Mohammad is unavailable due to an internal suspension imposed on him by the club for indiscipline reasons.
Ssentamu has been in good form since re-joining the Kitende based side in January, scoring six goals.
With Ceaser Manzoki, who scored twice against UPDF, available for selection along with Dan Sserunkuma, Kajoba will have a headache of sorts in terms of selecting who starts on Monday.
Vipers also have Bobosi Byaruhanga, Denis Kiggundu and Milton Karisa return from injury. Only Jamil Karisa (fever) and Bashir Asiku (internal suspension) are the other missing players.
The Venoms will be hoping they take care of Busoga before the two sides face off in the return leg of the tie later this week.
Sitting top of the standings in the league, a double is on for Fred Kajoba’s side if they can negotiate their way to glory in the cup.
Speaking ahead of the game, Kajoba is worry of the threat Busoga poses.
“We are happy the boys started the week well but we cannot rest because we have another task before us to complete. Said Kajoba.
“This game will not be that easy, we beat them last December but a lot has changed in their team – they are good going forward and can be dangerous sometimes. So, we have to come hungrier and tougher than we did last time.
“We are happy all our players who have been injured for sometime are back and ready to play. Hopefully their return is timely and will boast the squad’s confidence as we continue the season.”
Last season, Vipers were eliminated by Regional side Kajjansi United at this stage and the Venoms are desperate to avoid another humiliation of the kind.
For Busoga, they come into the game full of confidence as they have won all their past four league games.
Off a commanding 2-0 victory at home to Onduparaka FC last week, Abby Kikomeko’s side must feel they can pick a positive result at Kitende and take it into the return leg on Friday.
Last season, Busoga United were eliminated from the Cup by Busia Young in the round of 64.
Vipers and the Students have already net this season and the Venoms ran out 5-3 winners in the league’s first round clash played at Njeru.
This will be the 9th meeting between the two sides since October 2016 with Vipers winning five times, Busoga once while the other two have ended in draws.
Busoga have lost all their three visits to Kitende without scoring a single goal.
