Saturday, February 13
*Villa 1-0 MYDA
*Bright Stars 5-0 Kitara
*Vipers 1-0 UPDF

SC Villa needed a late winner to overcome struggling newcomers MYDA in a Uganda Premier League game played at Bombo Barracks grounds.

Second half substitute Faizal Kazibwe scored the only goal six minutes from time to hand the jogoos a hard fought win.

Kazibwe tapped in from close range thanks to an assist from fellow substitute Benson Muhindo.

Villa move to fifth with 10 points as MYDA remain second from the bottom with just two points.

In their last fixture, Villa had lost to Express 1-0 but it was an improved performance from MYDA who had lost 7-0 to Vipers.

The game started with both teams settling in for long balls due to the state of the pitch.

In the 21st minute, Goffin’s shot went just inches away from the post after Ogwang had set him up.

MYDA seemed to be a more organized team than in their previous fixture, with Paul Musamali a pillar at the heart of the Malaba based side.

In the 34th minute, Fred Okot released Norman ojik but he was ruled offside.

In the 40th minute, Villa could have gotten their opener but Derick Ndahiro’s free kick just hit the post before going out for a goal kick.

Musamali who was making his debut for the visitors, looked more composed at the back, Okot plot making some good runs going forward, with Norman Ojik also looking decent upfront in the absence of top scorer Ibrahim Nsimbe.

The best chance for MYDA came in the 78th minutes when Eric Mutebi collected from Saidi keni’s mistake, but his effort just kissed the post to go out for a goal kick.

A few minutes later, Villa got their opener in the 84th minute with Benson setting up Kazibwe to tap in from close range.

Sc villa now move to 10 points into fifth place on the log.

MYDA have now collected just a point from the opening six games played so far and remain bottom of the log
