Uganda Hippos defender Kenneth Semakula says they will put up a good fight at the U20 AFCON tournament.
Uganda and 11 other nations will take part in this year’s finals tournament that will be held later this month in Mauritania.
The Hippos completed their mini tournament participation in Tanzania on Saturday.
In Tanzania, the Hippos played two games against the hosts, winning one and losing the other.
The first game saw Morley Byekwaso’s side triumph 1-0 off a Richard Basangwa goal but they were then beaten 5-3 in a thrilling encounter at the Azam Sports Complex in Chamazi.
The main positive from the loss was the ability to score three goals with Derrick Kakooza, Ivan Bogere, and Sam Ssenyonjo all on the score sheet.
The Hippos were, however, poor at the back conceding five goals but Ssemakula believes they did learn a lot from the friendlies and will put up a good fight at the finals.
“We are happy for the opportunity granted to us by FUFA to play in the mini tournament as we prepare for the final AFCON U20. Ssemakula said.
“Though the tournament never went as to plan especially in the last game, we picked up a lot of positives.
“We shall put up a good fight in the final tournament. We have a vision to fulfil and we call upon for your (fans) support.”
The hippos will head to the to Mauritania on Wednesday, February 10th before the games start on Friday.
At the finals tournament, Hippos are drawn in group A alongside hosts Mauritania, Cameroon and Mozambique.
