Watenga’s Chippa United Confirms New Coach

South African side, Chippa United, has reappointed Dan Malesela, the club has announced.

Chippa is the new home for Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Ismail Watenga, a club he joined this month.

Malesela, christened as ‘Dan Dance’ rejoins the side after they withdrew the appointment of controversial Belgian coach Luc Eymael.

Eymael who was announced as coach last Wednesday, saw the club change their mind in dramatic turn of events following his bad track record that led to his sacking at Young Africans due to racial remarks.

Malesela will be in charge until the end of the 2020/21 DStv Premiership campaign, Chippa has confirmed.

He led the team to the best ever league finish (sixth in the 2015/16 season) and to a memorable 2017 Nedbank Cup semifinal place.

“We are very excited to have ‘Dan Dance’ back in our club structures. He has always been well liked by our different supporters’ branches. We didn’t hesitate to link him back to the Chili Boys when that opportunity presented itself,” Chippa United FC chairman Siviwe Mpenges is quoted.

“We have a person that is familiar to the position that we find ourselves in, our brand, the team culture as well as our club ambitions. I wish him well in this journey and towards helping the team in our desired achievements for this season.”

His first match will be against SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium when the PSL resumes on January 6, 2021.

Chippa are 14th, 3rd from the bottom on a 16-team log, with five points from eight games.
