Tanzania managed to negotiate past Ethiopia to book a spot in the CECAFA U17 Championship final after a thrilling semifinal game on Sunday.

The side joins Uganda, who they will face in the Tuesday final, as the two cecafa representatives at the 2021 AFCON U17 Tournament in Morocco.

Tanzania, who had a man sent off, needed shootouts to oust Ethiopia after normal time had ended 1-1.

Tanzania took the lead through Yodahe Bakalo who beat Ethiopian goalkeeper Abdallah Hassani to slot home in the 38th minute.

Tanzania’s Kassimu Yahaya Ibrahim was sent-off in the 68th minute, giving Ethiopia a chance and morale to fight back.

Ethiopian could later level four minutes later when Mikiyas Ganta tapped in at close range, and the two sides could later settle for a stalemate to necessitate shootouts.

In the shootouts, Tanzania’s goalkeeper Abdallah Hassani proved the hero when he kept out two kicks to garner wild celebrations.

Tanzania and Uganda will face off in Tuesday’s final at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, Rwanda.
