*Vipers 2-1 Kitara
*Kyetume 1-0 UPDF
Vipers needed two late goals to overcome struggling newcomers Kitara FC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Brian Mululi Mayanja handed the visitors a shock lead in the 54th minute when curled in after reckless defending from the Venoms.
Later, Fred Kajoba found solace from the bench.
Substitutes Paul Mucureezi and Dan ‘Mzee’ Sserunkuma scored a goal each as Vipers crawled to their first win of the 2020/21 UPL campaign.
Mucureezi came on for Jamil Kalisa at the hour-mark and equalised in the 81st minute with a header over goalkeeper off Denis Mwemezi cross to pump life into the few Vipers fans that attended the game.
Sserunkuma, another substitute who replaced Najib Yiga in the 55th minute, grabbed what proved to be the winner in the 84th minute when he slotted in off Mohammed Shaban’s effort.
After drawing 1-1 against Wakiso Giants, the defending champions were expected to find it easy against a side that shipped in five against UPDF and Police.
The win spares Kajoba brushes, a coach who is said to be on a knife edge since elimination from CAF Champions League on first hurdle against Al Hilal.
What Next – Kitara FC host Onduparaka in search for their first win on Saturday while Vipers visit Busoga United on Sunday before the league takes a long break until February next year.
