Brian Kalumba scored five league goals in his two opening league games for UPDF FC, a dream start for the striker who was deemed surplus to requirements at Vipers.
The striker followed his debut goal against Busoga United with a quartet against Kitara FC.
Kalumba has revealed to TheSportsNation the secret behind his form in the opening matches.
“The reason for my good start to the season first of all is proper preparations though it was for a short time because of Covid19 but coach Kefa (Kisala)gave us what enabled us have nine points now.”
“Another thing that has enabled me perform better is the good club management because if it was poor it would have affected us in the field as well.”
UPDF FC beat BUL FC at Bombo to move second on the long with nine points from three games.
On whether he thought he would have scored five goals in two opening matches, Kalumba, says:
“I never thought I would score this much in two games, but I had belief because I believe in myself and I always set my targets on a number of goals I should score in a season, so if I get chances I make sure I utilize them.
“I should have scored more than once against Busoga United, I missed chances but that was because it was the first match and maybe I was a little bit nervous because I was in a new club, with new coach and new teammates.
“But we sat down with the coach, he advised me and told me what to do, that’s why in the second game I managed to score four goals”.
Kalumba also says that there is good mood in the camp and he has got off well with teammates who are working as one.
“UPDF as a team is not bad, it has it’s history, it has been in the league for a long time though they got some problems and they were relegated. The management has provided us with everything we need that’s why we are performing well.
“At first, I was a bit scared to join UPDF because I knew it was for the soldiers, but I had my objectives and this is the team that can help me achieve them, that’s what gave me the courage to sign for UPDF whether it meant joining Army I will as long as I achieve my goals.
“My number one target has always been to get enough Playing time this season, so if I get enough playing time, it will enable me perform well.
“Another target is going abroad for a professional game as well as being summoned to the national team.”
