Mbarara Vs URA: No Ssenyondo, Mukwala Targets Another Boot

Mbarara City FC will be without head coach Brian Ssenyondo when they take on URA FC at Kakyeka Stadium.

Ssenyondo is part of the backroom staff for the Uganda Under-17 side that preparing for the CECAFA tourney later this month.

He has not returned to the club since.

Club’s assistant coach Sadiq Ssempigi resigned recently due to unpaid arrears.

The Ankole Lions will be under Former Tooro United’s head Coach Muhammad ‘Medie’ Kisekka who has held the last training sessions.

The club will bank on new striker Bashir Mutanda to get their season underway, while goalkeeper Martin Elungat, Ronald Edwok and Godfrey Kalungi are the other new signings.

Mutanda will be tasked to fill the boots of Brian Aheebwa who scored eight league goals before crossing to KCCA. Ibrahim Orit (Vipers) is another departure.

The visitors on the other hand, signed last season’s top scorer Steven Desse Mukwala who bagged 13 goals for Maroons on loan to Vipers.

“I will definitely start from where I stopped last season, and hopefully double my tally,” Mukwala told The-SportsNation.

“URA is one of the top clubs in the league. It has been a tremendous experience so far with the new teamates and trainers, with the talent we have at the club, we are going to compete for the ultimate prize.

“Facing Mbarara is a big challenge, they are one of the most challenging opponents to play against. But personally am ready for the game and will do my best to help my team collect maximum points.”

Jackson Nunda, Galiwango Arafat, Hannington Ssebwalunyo, Davis Ssali, Nkuubi Brian and Farouk Katongole are the other new signings for Coach Sam Ssimbwa.

Mbarara City FC beat Proline FC in their 2019/20 league opener 3-0 thanks to Paul Mucureezi (2) and Brian Aheebwa. They went on to finish 7th with 36 points.

URA FC started their 2019/20 league campaign with a 3-0 win over Maroons with goals from Said Kyeyune, Ronald Orombi (og) and Ivan Ntege. URA finished the season in fifth place with 40 points.

Last season, the sides shared spoils in a goalless draw while the would-be second round fixture was not played due to Covid19 pandemic that saw the league ended prematurely.

The clubs will be meeting for the sixth netting in the league, the last five have all ended in draws!
