The proposed Uganda Cricket Cranes tour to Qatar has been canceled, Uganda Cricket Association has told The-SportsNation.
The National team was scheduled to play a T20 International tournament in Qatar with the hosts, Malaysia and Nepal.
In preparation for the tourney, the Cricket Cranes squad of 21 players kicked off their preparations on November 9 at Lugogo Cricket Oval ahead of the December 14-19 showdown.
“We got a communication from our partners in Qatar that they failed to get the necessary clearance from the government due to the Covid-19 situation,” Denis Musali, Communications Manager UCA said.
“Therefore the tour to Qatar is off until a new date is communicated.”
Musali added that the boys will continue to train with the new coach as “we anticipate to have a very busy 2021.”
The new coach, Lawrence Mahatlane, was unveiled last week and promised to deliver an ODI status for the team.
The Cricket Cranes is expected to hold their annual tour to Qatar and India in January/February next year.
