Defender Halid Lwaliwa headed the winner as lacklustre Uganda Cranes finished it late past a well organised South Sudan side.
Coming off the bench to fill injured Ronald Mukiibi’s void, Lwaliwa marked his International debut with a bang.
He slightly lifted his body in a congested box to meet a Farouk Miya’s free kick which he directed past goalkeeper Majak Mawith.
The Vipers captain, playing at a familiar turf, wheeled away like a chopper in celebration in the corner flag before he was ambushed by jubilating teammates.
