Cranes: Two Foreign Based Players To Miss South Sudan Doubleheader

Uganda Cranes foreign based duo of Uche Mubiru Ikpeazu and Alex Kakuba will miss the AFCON qualifier doubleheader against South Sudan.

The duo have been part of the 20 foreign based contingent summoned earlier

The Cranes host South Sudan at Kitende this Thursday before a return leg in Nairobi four days later.

Striker Uche picked an injury on Friday in training with his English Championship side Wycombe Wanderers, as his wait for the Cranes debut remain on hold.

Left back Alex Kakuba who plays for Portuguese side CD Cova has pulled out.

“Unfortunately, Uche sustained an ankle injury on Friday training preparing for their game against Nottingham Forest,” McKinstry told UG Sport.

“It looks like he is going to be down for few weeks so he will not be able to join us.

“In additional to that, Alex Kakuba will not be able to join us as well, its so frustrating but we have other players who will compete for a position which also gives them a change to represent Uganda.”

Both encounters will be played behind closed doors.

“We have to prepare the players because they are very much used to playing on the intensity and motion atmosphere which the fans always bring in the stadium,” McKinstry added.

“Most of our players are coming from Europe where they have experienced a similar situation in the last couple of months so hopefully they will adapt to it but we have to take measures to make sure that players can psychologically cope up well with an empty stadium.”
