Cheptegei Has My Vote – Kipchoge

World Marathon Record Holder Eliud Kipchoge says that he will vote for Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei for the 2020 Male Athlete of the year.

Cheptegei is among the nominees for the Athlete of the year, an accolade Kenya’s Kipchoge has won for the last two years.

Kenya’s Timothy Cheruiyot who ran a world leading 3:28.45 over 150m, was also nominated alongside Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo.

However, Kipchoge says that he will vote for his NN Running teammate over his Kenyan compatriot.

“I’m very honoured that I was two times the World Athletics Male Athlete of the year,” tweeted Kipchoge.

“For 2020, I wish my NN Running team teammate Cheptegei all the best in this award, he has my vote.”

The list of 10 athletes for the gong was selected by an international panel of athletes experts.

Swedish Pole Vaulter Mondo Duplantis, USA trio of Noah Lyles, Donovan Brazier and Ryan Crouser, Daniel Stahl (Sweden), Johannes Vetter (Germany) and Norwegian Karsten Warholm were also nominated.

Cheptegei is a big favourite in a year he broke three world records (5km road race, 5000m and 10,000m).
