Mbarara City FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo has expressed confidence in new signing Bashir Mutanda.
Mutanda was on Wednesday confirmed as an Ankole Lion in a press unveiling at Kati Kati in Kampala.
Ssenyondo, in an interview with The-SportsNation, says that the former Villa Striker has a lot of potential.
“He is a good, disciplined player. He has lots of potential to unleash,” the younger gaffer said.
Mutanda’s addition will cover the void left behind by striker Brian Aheebwa who joined Champions Vipers in the current window.
“Mutanda is not a direct replacement for Aheebwa,” Ssenyondo added. “He is a player with his own profile and in his own cliber.
“When going into the market, I looked at a young goalscorer who can score 20 goals a season.”
After scoring 13 goals in the 2018/19 season, Mutanda managed only two goals last season.
Ssenyondo defended the forward: “I think it was because of injuries that made him in and out but now it’s healed and he is a great addition.”
Ronald Edwok and Godfrey Kalungi are the other new signings at the club so far.
Ssenyondo says that three or four players, but mainly younger players, will be added before the season kicks off in October 17, 2020.
Mutanda says that he wants to score many goals to lift the club.
“Mbarara City FC came to me before in 2019,” Mutanda on why he joined Mbarara amidst other interests.
“So they came back to me again, I had to decide and their offer at least favours me in comparison to other clubs.
“I want to score as many goals as possible.”
