Jonathan Mugabi, commonly known as Dante was born on 4th September 1990 in Jinja by Fredrick Magaya and Grace Magaya.
He attended Mapeera Primary School, Buddo SS, Kasana SS, Bethany High School Nalya before joining Uganda Christian University.
Dante started his football career at Kakajjo Bweyogerere FC, and has also played for Wandegeya FC, Bweyogerere FC, Water FC, URA, SC Villa, Soana FC, Sofapaka FC, Vihiga in Kenya and now at Kyetume FC.
He is inspired by Sergio Ramos.
Here is our interview with Dante.
SportsNation: Who is the best teammate you have played with?
Dante: Tadeo Lwanga is my best teammate. He’s a leader and he performs his responsibility with vigor.
SportsNation: Who is the toughest opponent you have faced?
Dante: My toughest opponent is Senzo Meyiwa who played for Orlando Pirates as a Goalkeeper, he was hard to beat.
SportsNation: Who is the best manager you have played under?
Dante: I have played under the best coaches like Sam Simbwa, Paul Nkata, Ambrose Kirye, Charles Ayekoh, Nsimbe and Jackson Mayanja.
SportsNation: What is the favourite goal you have ever scored?
Dante: My favourite goal is the one I scored at Nzoia FC in Kenya.
SportsNation: What is the best game you have ever played?
Dante: My best game ever is CAF Champions League against Al Khartoum in February 2016. We won the game Home and Away with the same scoreline 1-0 and keeping a clean sheet in both ties.
SportsNation: Who were your Football Heroes when growing up?
Dante: Timothy Batabaire because of his agility and being straight and Paul Maldini very workaholic and a leader.
SportsNation: What is the funniest moment you remember in your football career?
Dante: When I forgot my jersey at the hotel, on reaching the playground, I had no jersey yet I was the captain. Another moment is when we sung the whole night after winning the Uganda Cup with URA.
SportsNation: What is the best local game you have ever watched?
Dante: I am not good at watching local games but the one I enjoyed was between SC Villa and Express at Namboole. Bonny Bayingana ran with the ball from the center line to score against SC Villa.
SportsNation: Who is the funniest and craziest player who have played with?
Dante: They are many like Simeone Masaba, Emma Balyejjusa, Ashadu Bugembe, Musoke Charles, Ayugi Victor, Robert Sentongo and Patrick Ochan. They used to joke a lot
SportsNation: Which local team do you support?
Dante: SC Villa because most of my local football idols played there, they inspired me a lot. Though it’s a poor team.
