Next Financial Year’s Sports Budget Already Approved – Janet Museveni Tells Off NCS

The Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni has told National Council of Sports (NCS) that the sports budget for next financial year has already been approved.

The budget for next financial year suffered a cut of Sh402bn, with NCS to receive Sh17bn instead of Sh25bn.

It is understood that NCS, under new chairman Dr Donald Rukare, had written the First Lady in relation to the matter.

The letter dated May 7, the first lady has told NCS that their efforts are a wild goose chase – waste of time.

“I have seen your letter of 2nd April 2020. I understand and share your concerns about the reduction of the National council of Sports budget of Financial year 2020/21,” reads a letter from Janet to NCS, seen by this website, in part.

“I also know however, that it is no use now putting up a struggle because that process of budgeting has been concluded for next financial year. But having said that, I must hasten to add that we shall impress this concern on government side as we see the needs in the near future.

“Therefore, please know we are aware and with God’s support we will overcome.”

This week, State Minister For Sports Hon Hamson Obua said that they shall continue to engage the Parliament on the matter throughout the finanacial year.

The budget cut came after government channeling most of the resources to fight COVID19 pandemic.
