Uganda’s two-legged tie with Cameroon in the FIFA Women U17 World Cup Qualifiers has been postponed, CAF has announced.
The Uganda women U17 was supposed to host Cameroon in May 1-3 before a second leg on 15-17 the same month.
The postponement has been inevitable because of the ongoing widespread of Covid19 pandemic.
The statement on CAF Website reads in part:
“In light of growing concerns and evolving nature on COVID-19 amidst lockdown in most countries, the CAF Emergency Committee has decided to postpone the following matches until further notice:
Total CAF Champions league and Total CAF Confederation Cup Semi- final matches: Both legs scheduled for the 1-3 May & 8-10 May 2020
The football governing body in Africa has added that the new schedule will be announced soon as they continue to monitor the situation.
Uganda eliminated Tanzania with a 6-2 aggregate victory to reach this stage, Ayub Khalifa’s side had eliminated Ethiopia in the first round.
Cameroon who has participated in the last two U17 Women World Cups – 2016 & 2018 – received a bye in the preliminary round. They beat Sao Tome at the second round.
Africa will be represented by three countries in the 16-team FIFA women U17 World Cup set in India.
