The elite list of African stars are not coming to Uganda following the world wide spread of Corona Virus pandemic.
The stars were supposed to play a game with Ugandan legends as part of the Uganda – Friendship week.
Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure, El Hadji Diouf, Benjani Mwaruwari, Taribo West, Emmanuel Eboue were some of the notable stars.
They were supposed to jet in the country on March 20, with the game scheduled at Namboole on March 22.
Events manager Balam Byarugaba confirmed the postponement of the event in a long Facebook post.
“In the interest of the safety and protection of humanity, we regret to announce that the much awaited and advertised, all stars Africa – French legends football match Sponsored by MTN Uganda, Guinness, Next Media and Radio4 and Powered by French Embassy has been postponed,” reads the post in part.
“The decision has been taken in the interest of Protecting humanity in the midst of the World wide Spread of the Corona virus -covid19 Pandemic , this decision has been taken as a precaution.”
World wide, most sports events have been cancelled because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Byarugaba also added that the Johnnie Walker Sponsored live concert featuring the World’s best French bands Kassav and Vegedream has also been postponed.
Another date for the match and concert will be communicated in due course, he added.
