Buganda kingdom in continuing partnership with Airtel Uganda, launched this year’s Kabaka birthday run.
At the press briefing held at Bulange. Mengo on Wednesday, a new theme was realized – ‘Men against HIV to save girl child’.
The partnership has been vital in creating awareness over killer diseases like sickle cells and Fistula in the past years.
But since Uganda is among the most affect countries by HIV/AIDs, Airtell and Buganda kingdom have been forced to step into the cause.

The Airtell managing director V.G Somasekhar explained: “Having created enough awareness towards fistula and sickle cells over the past six years, we now want to shine more light on HIV/AIDs,
“We shall be working with the Kingdom on this matter, we therefore call upon Ugandans to come in large number to support the cause.”
According to the package announced in December 2019, Buganda Kingdom is receiving Sh1.2 billion as sponsorship for different activities which include Kabaka birthday run.
The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga appreciated Airtel Uganda for the continuous support towards the Kingdom.
“I thank Airtell Uganda for being by our side in different matters as Buganda Kingdom we are really grateful for this partnership.”
On behalf of the Kingdom, Katikkiro argued Ugandans to respond heavily in taking part to Kabaka Birthday run and in fighting HIV/AIDs.
“We encourage everyone to buy ticket and start exercising as well for the upcoming run, we would also like to encourage Men to get tested and treated in order to protect the girl child. We thank all partners for the continued support.”
