University League: Debutant Kabale Extends Perfect Start

Action between Kabale and Kisubi in the University football league.

Niwagaba Peter scored the late winner as Kabale University beat University of Kisubi to pick their second win in two matches for in the ongoing University Football League.

Kabale won 2-1, to hand Kisubi their second loss, in a game played at Kisubi on Sunday 1st March 2020.

Devis Muyambi scored a header in the 12th minute for Kabale’s opener before Kisubi equalized through Prince Aryatuha own goal when he connected Turyamureba Williams fantastic cross in the 80th minute.

Peter Niwagaba’s winning goal arrived in the 88th minute of the game to send Kabale on top of group A with 6 points.

Kisubi was under coach Karl Baijahe Charles, as head coach Allan Kabonge was sent off in their first match to MUST in Mbarara.

While speaking on the second loss, Karl blamed the loss to immaturity of his team.

“For sure when we got a late equaliser and I thought that a point was fine since we are still building but a lot of immaturity in our players that cost us,” Karl said.

“I am going to work on that because it is something which happens for new teams.”

Kabale University tactician Nsubuga Farouk hailed Kisubi for an improved performance..

“When you compare how they played against MUST and how they played today, you will realize a lot of improvement. That means the league is getting more competitive.

“I thank God for today’s win, now we are on top of the group but there is still a lot to do. We have to remain focused to win our matches to come so that we can qualify for the quarterfinals.”

Kabale University defeated 2018 champions Kyambogo 1-0 in their opening match.

The league shall return on Wednesday, March 4 as YMCA host last year’s finalist St Lawrence in Buwambo.
