KCCA football club with no doubt has been an outstanding team of the decade in Ugandan football.
Picking their best XI, from a big pool of classy players that have donned the famous yellow jersey from 2010 to 2019, is not an easy undertaking.
Benjamin Ochan(GK): The shot stopper who is currently trading his mark with Kenyan side AFC leopards had two stints with the garbage collectors in the decade and his efforts on KCCA FC glory days are memories to count on.
Ochan helped KCCA FC win their first ever double in history and he was also instrumental as the club made it to the CAF confederations cup group stages, most remembered for saving two penalties against Egypt’s Al-Masry in Cairo.
Jamal Salim who was also a great part in the development of KCCA FC as they rose back to the peak under George Best Nsimbe.
Dennis Okot Oola(RB): After his spell at KCCA, there has been struggle for Mike Mutebi’s side to replace him at the right back. Okot is dubbed to be an historical captain for KCCA FC having guided the side to their first ever group stages of the CAF champions league and confederations cup, and its under his guide that KCCA FC won the double.
However Saka Mpiima can’t be left out in the bracket as well.
Joseph Ochaya (LB): The fancy left back had two spells with KCCA FC having a return in 2015 from Ghana side Asante Kotoko. Ochaya’s return to KCCA FC won him a national team spot giving Geoffrey Walusimbi stiff competition on the national team.
He further went on to be named the league MVP in 2017 having guided the side to league championship.
With all talked about Joseph Benson Ochaya we can’t leave out the work done by Mustafa Kizza a boy who gave competition to the experienced Habib Kavuma and Paul musamali sealing at starting slot for KCCA FC.
Timothy Dennis Awany (CD): In 2014, Awany got a chance to put on the KCCA FC colors and since then he has been a consistent player for KCCA FC for five good seasons winning all that was there for him.
Ivan Ntege (CM): One of the consistent players KCCA FC have had in the decade his love for the club won him a starting slot for KCCA FC under different coaches
Isaac kirabira is also not far from the bracket being the other player to be in the two historical lineups of KCCA FC
Muzamiru Mutyaba (CM): At KCCA FC, there is a slogan saying “Our way” and Muzamiru is one of the players to have brought it out clearly ,he has been a player KCCA FC banked on almost six seasons since his move from Victoria.
Brian Majwega (Lw): Despite leaving KCCA FC in an ugly manner in his second spell at Lugogo, Majwega has been a great figure for club, producing a competitive spell at the left wing under two managers.
Paul Mucureezi (RW); Just like Majwega, Mucureezi left KCCA FC in a way that wasn’t pleasing, being a darling to fans in lugogo, he scored not many goals for KCCA FC but some very very important goals notably a decider against Express FC in Wankulukuku that earned KCCA FC their 12th tittle, his goal against rivals Sc Villa in Mityana was also important for the club and lastly his goal against Madagascar’s CNaPs in the qualifying round of champions league.
Allan Okello (AM) ; The little Magician as called by fans can’t be left out on the team , Allan got his debut in 2017 when he was just 17 years and has enjoyed his teen ages at Lugogo being talked about in the land and out side.
Allan who recently concluded the decade driving himself after he was named the most Valuable player of 2019 has been termed as the leoniel Messi of Uganda by his Coach Mutebi. And when Mike speaks, we speak and listen.
Geoffrey Sserunkuma (CF): Sserunkuma’s last spell to lugogo was received by mixed reactions from fans but he went on to disprove critics as the forward came and scored vital goals for the yellow lads.
He is the last KCCA FC forward to score 20 goals and above, when in 2017, scored 21 league goals and other 8 goals in the caf champions league play-offs , confederations cup as well as Uganda Cup.
Brian Umony (CF); Umony is remembered to give defenders sleepless nights in the 2012 under coach George Best Nsimbe and he also make my KCCA FC team of the decade.
He (Umony) scored crucial goals for KCCA FC not only on the local scene but he also put defenders on the Continent that saw Ethiopian giants St.George lure him.
Coach Mike Mutebi ; The Our way Coach will take charge of the KCCA FC team of the decade. He won the only double KCCA FC have in history and headed KCCA FC to the CAF champions league and confederations cup group stages.
He his the same manager to have won the Cecafa kagame club cup after 41 years with arguably a young squad.
Mutebi has groomed players at KCCA FC saving the club from big expenditure, he has also put KCCA FC on an international level where Giants on the continent don’t look at KCCA FC as a minor club.
