FUFA Awards: A Look At 2019 Best XI

The 2019 FUFA awards saw a best XI named at an event held at Speke Resort, Munyonyo.

Four players – Paul Willa, Mustafa Kizza, Allan Okello and Viane Ssekajugo returned to the squad as it was in 2018.

Joel Mutakubwa was named the best goalkeeper, ahead of KCCA’s Charles Lukwago and URA’s James Alitho. This, was won by SC Villa’s Samson Kirya last year.

Willa and Mustafa were named the right and left full backs respectively while John Revita and Halid Lwaliwa made the centre back positions.

Former Tooro United’s winger Allan Kayiwa who is now at Vipers had made the top five for the best male gong and he was rewarded with a place on the XI.

Allan Okello, Shafic Kagimu and Bright Anukani are the other members that make the midfield, with the latter having helped Proline achieve top flight status and Uganda Cup triumph.

Viane Ssekajugo and Mike Mutyaba were named as the best forwards. Top strikers who missed out include Ivan Bogere who had a good season with Proline, Vipers’ Dan Sserunkuma and Villa’s Bashir Mutanda.

It should be noted that players who have since joined clubs outside Uganda were neglected.

2019 Female Best XI – Daisy Nakaziro (GK) Naziz Florence, Nankya Shadia, Marion Amangat, Viola Namuddu, Rita Nabbosa, Phiona Nabbumba, Fauzia Najjemba, Mauren Kinavudori, Juliet Nalukenge, Hasifa Nassuna.
